It’s time to give back to the community - and potentially find your calling while doing so.

Still need to finish your hours? Footprints 4 Autism is an organization that provides respite services to families with children diagnosed with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder). Every week, they offer sessions where these children are placed in respite care for a few hours, allowing them to have fun while giving their families extra time to focus on other things. Footprints is located at Dunbarton Fairport United Church (1066 Dunbarton Road).
As a Child Support Volunteer, you work with the children, keeping them safe and entertaining them. Shifts are on Saturdays at 8:45AM-1:15PM or 1:30PM to 5:00PM. It is essentially like working in a daycare, except that you work very closely with a child (usually one volunteer or more per child) . As a volunteer, you are provided with training sessions, including First Aid Training and Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) Training. Volunteers can sign up for one or more sessions a month.
So, why should you do this? If you’re interested in going into psychology or medicine, this is a great opportunity to have experience put on your university application. In fact, many of the volunteers are university students currently studying in one of those fields, so you can make plenty of connections. Other than that, Footprints is full of fun activities and experiences for people who love working with kids, and offers a lot of volunteer hours. If you are interested, go to their website to learn more, and fill out the online application.
