Do you know DECA ?

DECA is a global student network that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in hospitality, marketing, law, finance and management in high schools and post-secondary institutions across Ontario. Through competition and conferences, students develop essential professional workplace skills. Pickering High School’s DECA chapter has over 50 members, here are some of the projects the team has been working on:

Our DECA Team has a long-standing tradition of community outreach. This year, our students procured heartwarming gift baskets for police officers, firefighters, and other hard-working civil servants. The baskets included beautifully painted thank you cards, uplifting messages, and encouraging treats to show community gratitude.

As a part of the team’s adopt a road program, PHS DECA treached down Church Street with the Eco club to pick up litter. They ended up with just around 51 bags of garbage and recycling.

In additional, the Pickering DECA held a toy and clothing drive in accordance with the Salvation Army. Students brought over 100 books, socks, and jackets. This simple act of kindness helps many community members fend off the cold Canadian winter while also bringing a smile to children’s faces.

Finally, as a part of PHS DECA’s yearly outreach, the team participated in the Pickering Santa Claus Parade. Students walked down Glenanna with a cheerful tune, spreading holiday spirit to all those around.

It has been a busy couple of months for the Pickering DECA team, here’s to seeing more in the future!
